Hi all, now we need to send a notice that the call has been extended to all the lists above!!

Here is my suggested wording. I'll start sending mine tomorrow, so if you suggest a major change let us know right away.

REMINDER: Call for Participation for WiaOC 2007

CONNECT: a free synchronous and asynchronous online conference for teachers and education professionals

May 18–20, 2007

Deadlne extended to April 17, 2007

With apologies for cross-postings ...

This is a reminder that Webheads in Action <http://webheads.info> has invited you to participate in CONNECT: Conversations on Networking, Education, Communities, and Technology, a unique conference to be held entirely online May 18–20, 2007. More information is available at <http://wiaoc.org> or <http://www.wiaoc.org>, and our first completely free online global convergence can be replayed at: <http://2005.wiaoc.org>

The deadline for proposals for presentations has been extended to April 17, 2007.

The original CfP can be found at http://cfp.wiaoc.org. The following information can be found at that URL.

Proposals are invited for synchronous events, asynchronous events, or combinations of the two. Session topics can be pedagogical or technical, and might include examples of practical work with students, training sessions, reports of research or research in progress, demonstrations of new media, or descriptions or explorations of how interaction takes place over the Internet—e.g., how online communities form as a result of computer-mediated communication.

Synchronous events (including, but not limited to presentations, demonstrations, panel / roundtable discussions, chats and conversations) can be held at any of our partners' voice-enabled presentation portals, or one of your own choosing. Training and assistance will be available for presenters wishing to use our partners' venues.

Asynchronous events might include bulletin board discussions, online poster sessions, integration with content management systems, or other formats.

To create a proposal, first register at the convergence proposal site http://wiaoc.prof2000.pt/ (don't worry if this site still has the old deadline, the extension is valid)

Remember your ID and password there, because once you have registered, you may, until the deadline, revisit the site as often as you like to edit or add to your proposal, or create new ones.

Tagged artifacts will be aggregated during and around the time of this conference. Please tag any artifacts you create wiaoc2007.

Please check our websites for information on registering for the conference around mid-April.

You may direct questions to WiAOC Coordinator Vance Stevens at vstevens@emirates.net.ae

We look forward to interacting with you at the WiAOC 2007: CONNECT free online convergence.

Please feel free to distribute this notice to your colleagues as you see fit

The WiAOC 2007 Organization Team

Who's on the committee? So far, I think it's Dennis chairing, and Claire and Vance ... anyone else? I could help out here, too. - Susan (2-24-07 GREAT thanks Susan)

The committee will decide on wording; all Steering Committee members are welcome to comment

Thanks for starting us off with the blog entries, Dennis. I've removed mention of the deleted items - Vance (2-19-07)

An announcement of the CfP was issued in 2005 with this wording: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/evonline2002_webheads/message/10181

I hope in an effort to reduce the confusion of having multiple versions of the CfP in various places, and having received no further feedback on this one as of March 3, 2007, I have removed the text from here and placed it at:

http://cfp.wiaoc.org

If you wish to make further comments, please copy the portion you wish to comment on from there, paste it here, and make your comments in colored text.

Here are comments on two items:

1. First paragraph

The first single-line paragraph is, in my opinion, a little bit confusing. Here's what currently exists:

Following on the success of our first completely free online global convergence, http://2005.wiaoc.org ...

Suggested change:

Following on the success of our first completely free online global convergence (http://2005.wiaoc.org ...),

Personally, I like to see the next paragraph follow after the ), but there may be good reasons to do it as above.

Ok, I put the potentially confusing paragraph lower down in the text (vance March 6)

2. Paragraph 6

I'd like to see the next-to-last word changed as follows:

Synchronous events (including, but not limited to presentations, demonstrations, panel / roundtable discussions, chats and conversations) can be held at any of our partners' voice-enabled presentation portals, or one of your own choosing. Training and assistance will be available for presenters wishing to use our partners' venues.
Done, Vance, March 6

Other

Will everyone understand what tagged artifacts (paragraph 11) are? Could explanatory comments (such as the note to Chris, below) be added?

Dennis (3-02-07)

I think if they don't understand it they can ignore it, it won't apply - the explanation to the uninitiated is too convoluted, but to those aware of the concept, it is essential to get this info out - Vance March 6 2007

The committee of Dennis, Claire, Susan and Vance will take into consideration anything posted here before setting the world loose on the final CfP.

We are waiting for some confirmatory feedback on the proposed submission deadline date of April 7, 2007 at which time we hope that Fernanda can accordingly change dates in the files she has online for us (at http://wiaoc.prof2000.pt).

I think a deadline of April 7, 2005 is OK, but I wouldn't want it to be any later than that.

Dennis (3-02-07)

At that time we will issue the call.

Fernanda has acted and we are ready to roll, Vance March 6, 2007

Previous comments:

Will there be any live chats? If so, that could be included. Claire (2-22-07) ok, mention added, thanks, V

We might hold off on registration info; consulting with Jeff - Vance

All are invited to register at our WiAOC 2007 Moodle portal: http://www.opensource.idv.tw/moodle/course/view.php?id=47

Participants in our first Online Convergence Nov 2005 may use their old accounts at the Open Source for Educators Moodle, but should enroll in the new WiAOC 2007 'course'.

Chris, tagged photos in Flickr, blog postings, del.icio.us page links, etc will aggregate when the tags are searched on in individual applications or in del.icio.us . Good use of this was made at the k-12 online conference for example. George Siemens also asked participants to use occ2007 for the connectivism conference.

I'm going to show my ignorance by admitting I don't understand exactly what you mean by tagging an artifact. Perhaps you could suggest a site or sites where presenters do this. - Chris (2-19-07)

Shouldn't there be an apostrophe in Educators (Educators')? Claire (2-22-07)

There should not be a comma between "Educators" and "but" Claire (2-22-07) ... :-) HI claire, Vance

What do Claire's questions (above) refer to? (Dennis: 3-02-07)

These comments referred to info on registration for the conference which I removed as we can defer these to a later date (we must decide whether to go with Moodle or Drupal, %worldbridges)

In the above text, would it be convenient for people if we linked "WiAOC 2007: CONNECT" back to the WiAOC 2007 page? Claire (2-22-07)

Think for the moment, email message to everyone in your address book (or at least to lists you follow)

Vance Feb 23
